Cellulite - why and how does it form and how to get rid of it?

Cellulite is a lump that is visible to the naked eye or when the skin is squeezed. It is a problem faced by the majority of the population, especially women. Why does it happen? It is mainly determined by the hormonal balance. Unfortunately, ‘orange peel’ (the colloquial name for cellulite) is the cause of many complexes both in young and old age.

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is a subcutaneous nodule visible when a test is performed by squeezing a fold of skin. It is formed due to the accumulation of excess water and fat in the body. If cellulite is in its final stage of development then the skin will be sore when pulled. The accumulated fat cells are then very hard and put pressure on the blood vessels. This is why it is important to make an appointment at the clinic to get rid of it at an early stage, as soon as you notice the first signs of cellulite developing. A good method will also be to start physical activity, which significantly reduces the likelihood of developing a defect.

Causes of cellulite

The main cause of cellulite is the accumulation of unnecessary fat in the body, as it inhibits the efficient removal of water, which lodges in the hollow spaces between the lumps. The uneven distribution of fat tissue causes inflammation of the connective tissue, as toxins are not excreted. But what are the main causes that promote the formation of cellulite?

Hormonal disorders

The problem of cellulite mainly affects women, due to a different hormonal balance to that of men. In the female body, there is a hormone called oestrogen. Estrogen is responsible for fat cells, or more precisely their regular breakdown and storage. Fat tissue is distributed differently in men and women. Men’s fat cells are distributed from the waist up, while the opposite is true for women – from the waist down. In addition, the structure of cell arrangement in the female body is horizontal, which favours the formation of fat nodules, so metabolic products are not excreted from the body.

Genetic conditions

Our metabolism is also affected by genes passed on to us from our parents or grandparents. This is a problem that is difficult to remedy. That is why it is important to take care of the skin at an early stage of development. The first cellulite appears as early as adolescence, when the hormonal economy changes. If you know that your family is struggling with the same problem, it is a good idea to use anti-cellulite creams early on. Be sure to ask one of our experts at your first visit for cosmetics tailored to your body’s needs.

Sedentary lifestyle

That’s right! Cellulite is less common in physically active people. Poor diet, inactivity and smoking are just some of the causes of cellulite. A diet high in fat and carbohydrates contributes to the accumulation of fatty tissue and, consequently, the appearance of orange peel. Regular physical activity will help improve blood and lymph circulation. Postural defects caused by sedentary work also cause excessive water accumulation, by putting pressure on fluid flow areas within the body. The formation of cellulite is therefore closely linked to lifestyle.

Stages of cellulite development

Not everyone knows that there is such a thing as degrees of cellulite development. The degrees of cellulite depend on how visible it is and whether we feel discomfort when touching the tissue. Before your first treatment, it is helpful to recognise which degree applies to your body. Our qualified experts will help you with this during your first visit to Arcadia Clinic in Krakow.

First degree of cellulite

If you have first-degree cellulite, there is nothing to fear. It often shows itself with hormonal activity during themenstrual period and disappears immediately afterwards. We classify it as water cellulite. To get rid of it, all you need to do is cleanse your body of excess water.

Second degree of cellulite

In this case, it will already be necessary to take more decisive steps. The orange peel still only appears when a fold of skin is squeezed, but the defect is already more visible. In this phase, it will be necessary to introduce physical activity into your daily routine. The causes of cellulite at this stage may already be related to a poor diet and care must be taken to ensure that the defect does not become larger.

Third stage of cellulite

At this point, the defect in the subcutaneous tissue is already visible to the naked eye. The accumulation of fat cells causes discomfort when touched and can cause initial circulation problems. To remove fatty cellulite, one should visit an aesthetic medicine and cosmetology clinic. Arcadia Clinic offers high-quality treatments to reduce fatty tissue.

Fourth degree of cellulite

This is the least pleasant stage of cellulite development. Cellulite lesions are visible on the skin from a distance. Touch causes pain, which is caused by the compression of tissues into nerve connections. Blood flow is reduced because fat cells block blood vessels. At this stage, there is no need to delay; a visit to a medical aesthetician is already necessary.
